Veterinary Assistant

Homer Animal Hospital is opening in late March or early April 2025 in Vancouver, BC, at the corner of Homer and Pacific. While our new hospital is just beginning, our owners have been successfully operating a veterinary hospital in North Vancouver since 2009. We’re looking for dedicated Veterinary Assistants (both full-time and part-time) to join our growing team and help provide high-quality care to our patients.

Job Description:
From wellness exams to emergency treatment, we offer a full spectrum of veterinary services.

Animal Care and Clinical Support:

 

  • Assist in restraining animals during exams, treatments, and procedures.
    Take vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration.
    Prepare animals and equipment for surgeries and other medical procedures.
  • Clean and sterilize equipment and hospital facilities.
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging, including x-rays and ultrasound.

 

Reception / Client Support:

 

  • Greet clients and their pets in a friendly and compassionate manner.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage client inquiries.
  • Process payments and manage client accounts.
  • Assist clients with checking in and checking out, ensuring a smooth and pleasant experience.
  • Maintain organized and clean reception and waiting areas.
  • Provide education to clients on pet care, nutrition, and preventative health.
  • Handle client concerns and questions, directing them to the appropriate team member when needed.
  • Previous experience as a veterinary assistant is required – 1 year minimum
    Knowledge of animal anatomy and medical procedures.

Full-Time Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)

We are an exciting new animal hospital opening in April 2025, dedicated to providing high-quality care to our patients and a supportive, team-oriented environment for our staff. As we prepare to open our doors, we’re looking to hire a passionate and experienced Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) to join our team!

Job Description:

As an RVT at Homer Animal Hospital, you will be an integral part of our dynamic, growing team, delivering exceptional care to our patients in a professional and compassionate environment. This position will begin in late March or early April 2025, as we prepare to open our doors to the community. The tentative schedule for this position is Monday – Friday 10am-6pm. Please include your availability in your application.

  • Perform physical examinations on animals and assist with diagnosis.
  • Administer vaccines, medications, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Assist in surgeries, including prepping patients, monitoring anesthesia, and providing post-operative care.
  • Take radiographs (x-rays) in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collect samples for laboratory testing, including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids.
  • Provide client education on animal care, preventative health, and treatment options.
  • Monitor patient recovery and provide emergency care when needed.
  • Maintain medical records and ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Help manage the inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring the hospital’s clinical environment meets industry standards.
  • Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia (CVBC).
  • Strong knowledge of veterinary medical procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
